Cornbread, Earl and Me, a full length feature film.
He had all the right moves to put the ball away...until the cops put him away for good. UCLA All-American and NBA Rookie Of The Year Keith (Jamaal) Wilkes and Academy Award)* and Golden Globe** winner Laurence Fishburne III give spectacular debut performances in this "touching...sensitive and gripping movie" (Cue) that's "guaranteed to take your emotions for a reckless ride" (L.A. Journal).
Step into the court with Cornbread, Earl And Me...you'll be glad you did. Wilkes is "Cornbread," a promising high school basketballer who has what it takes to drive himself right out of the ghetto...until two cops mistake him for a rapist and gun him down in cold blood. But when the police attempt to cover up their mistake, strong-arming the community into silence with threats of jail time and violence, it's up to Cornbread's 11-year-old worshipful fan Wilford (Fishburne) and his pal Earl (Tierre Turner) to find the courage to speak the truth and clear Cornbread's name.*1993: Supporting Actor, What's Love Got to Do With It **1995: Actor, "The Tuskegee Airmen"
Comments: This movie is GREAT! This is an important story about friendship and manhood. Young Larry Fishburne's admiration of "Cornbread" rings true with any child who had an older friend to admire as a role model. But the outstanding part is where Fish's mother (Rosalind Cash) tells Fishburne to go to the courtroom stand and BE A MAN and not be intimidated into giving false testimony of Cornbread's death at the hands of the police as the other witnesses were! This scene borught tears to my eyes and a "standing-o" from the audience I saw it with. This scene alone, with the message it gives to young people about integrity, is worth the price of admission alone! 18 of 18 viewers approved this comment
Great movie!!! This movie stands the test of time. I remember seeing this movie on the big screen when I was little.I was so moved by young Larry Fishburneʻs performance that I found myself crying right along with him during the big tearjerking scene. So much talent even at that young age of 12. It's hard to believe that the sweet kid in "Cornbread Earl and Me" grew up to be the mean Ike Turner in "What's Love Got To Do With It"! One of my favorite movies as a child, "Cornbread Earl and Me" is now one of my children's favorites. The teenagers love it for the violence (angry mob attacks cops, woman gets 'pimp slap' in the face by crooked cop, ... etc.) but I like it because of the beautiful touching story. Buy it, you won't be disappointed. | 13 of 13 approved this coment.
